For those that don't know the history, Gip Dammone, Jazz Don of Leeds and one-time driving force behind the Dig! Family promotions crew and Cooker Records also owns an incredibly good, family run Italian restaurant. To mark the 30th anniversary of the restaurant, Dig! Family member Eddie Roberts arranged 11 vintage Italian and Neapolitan tunes for his quintet.
This has turned out to be another awesome album from Eddie and one that should cement his status as one of the most important Jazz talents around right now. The release of the CD is due this month on Salvo's Records and on P.Vine in Japan. You can pick it up already from Salvo's if you can't wait. Check Salvo's website for further details. The Quintet also play live at the Restaurant on Sunday 21st January.
The Eddie Roberts Quintet - Trenta
Long Players : FORTHCOMING (but available in the meantime from http://www.salvos.co.uk).....Eddie Roberts’ 8th album as leader features the acclaimed Roughneck line up and further explores his jazz influences with references to Grant Green, Ramsey Lewis, Gabor Szabo and swinging 60’s soundtracks in the grooves of this latest recording session. The New Mastersounds’ guitar ace has written some tough, some tender but always swinging arrangements of Italian tunes from the 60s and 70s with warm analogue production in his trademark Roughneck style.
