Roda De Funk -- Funk Como Le
Gusta
. . . CD . . . $9.99 (Item: 38650)
Soul City/ST2 (Brazil), 1999
Condition: New Copy View Cart
An excellent new funky group from Brazil -- one steeped
in traditions of American Hammond grooves, mixed with Afro Cuban rhythms, and a cut and
paste mix-up pastiche that recalls the glory days of the early 90s west coast acid jazz Cookin'
scene! The record's a lot more compelling than we expected -- and feature some strong
instrumentation in a classic funk style, made even better by some soulful modern production.
One for fans of acid jazz and funky Brazilian music alike -- and with the tunes "Funk Hum",
"Funk De Bamba", "Nervosa", "Whistle Stop", and great covers of 70s funk classics "Dujii"
and "Forty Days"! Includes the bonus track "16 Toneladas"! (From the Brazil CD (M-Z and
Various) page.)

Jazz Critique Special Edition -- Groove, Funk & Soul . .

Nice one! In keeping with the Prestige and Blue Note label books we've had, Jazz
Critique has put together this excellent resource of jazz artists who operate in the "Groove,
Funk, & Soul" end of things! The book's put together with little chapters on the artists -- folks
like Sam Lazar, Afro Blues Quintet, Bobby Timmons, Carlos Malcolm, Young Holt Unlimited,
and other biggies -- and it's got full reproductions of the album covers, track listings, and
personnel and dates. As with the other books, there's some color pages, and lots of
interesting bits on the artists. Much of the text is in Japanese, but there's still plenty here to dig
up -- with lots of info on funky jazz artists you'll never see listed in the history books, or at least
not the ones they sell over here!
